FC Schalke 04 has drawn consequences from the unsuccessful start to the season and parted ways with coach Frank Kramer.
Frank Kramer is no longer the coach of FC Schalke 04. After the 5-1 debacle in the second round of the DFB Cup at TSG Hoffenheim, the Ruhr area club ended working with the 50-year-old. This was announced by Schalke on Wednesday (10/19/2022). Training on Wednesday is led by the assistant coaches.
Schröder: “Pioneering second half of the season”
“After the promotion, we all committed ourselves to one goal: staying up in the Bundesliga. Until the very end, we were convinced that we could turn the tide in the existing constellation. From our point of view, the time has now come for us to make personnel changes have to do,” says sporting director Rouven Schröder.
“In the last five league games before an extraordinarily long World Cup break, we have to score points in order to then prepare as well as possible for the second half of the season, which will be groundbreaking for our club.”
Games in Leverkusen and Hoffenheim as sticking points
Peter Knäbel, member of the board of directors and responsible for sport: “The way we performed, especially in the away games in Leverkusen and Hoffenheim, was not worthy of FC Schalke 04. That’s why our analysis goes beyond the individual manager trainers. We will have to improve significantly in all areas in order to be able to achieve our main goal – staying up in the league.”
Worst performance of the season
The heaviest cup smack in 17 years must have robbed Kramer of his last arguments. After last Friday’s 3-0 defeat against TSG in the league, Kramer was only a coach “on probation” at the penultimate table.
“It was undoubtedly our worst performance of the season. It couldn’t be worse,” admitted the coach after the cup defeat: “The defenselessness is almost a mystery to me. We all let the club down.”
