After the big fire: new main building Beekse Bergen almost finished

The last welds are laid, the floors are polished and the plants are placed on the table. The new main building of safari park De Beekse Bergen is almost ready to receive guests. Employees are relieved, but it is not a party atmosphere. The fire that destroyed the old main building does not leave anyone in the dark.

“It smelled a bit like barbecue in here, but I only found out later that such a big fire was going on,” says employee Justin Nagtegaal as he sweeps the dust from the brand-new pool tiles. In June 2021, that major fire completely reduced the then main building of the Beekse Bergen to ashes.

Justin has been working in the animation team of the holiday park for years at that time. But now he is scrubbing building material.

Almost a year later, all the plants are back on the table in the restaurant. The pool again invites you to take a dip and a Jeep is ready to serve as a showpiece in the arrivals hall.

“But it’s a bit of a double,” admits spokeswoman Linda Engels. “We had just renovated the place here. And then came the fire. So we could start all over again.”

Employees worked day and night to set up a new building as quickly as possible. There are now only the finishing touches just need it and then it’s done. “In a few weeks, the plan is.”

“It was sour for a while, but now we can continue.”

“But it won’t be a big opening party,” Engels reveals. The fire was a bitter pill for the employees, so they are sticking to a modest drink. “It was sour for a while, but at least now we can continue. And we are very proud of the result.”
