Following the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins on Friday (25th March), Foo Fighters’ GREATEST HITS album, released in 2009, has once again entered the top five of the UK Official Albums Chart. This is reported by the Official Charts Company (OCC). An increase in sales and streams of the most popular songs has meant that the hit collection is currently ranked fourth following the mid-week update (March 28) – the same position it held when it was first released in the UK.

The live record SKIN AND BONES, released in 2006, is also on track to re-enter the top 40 according to the OCC and is currently at number 36. The 1997 Foo Fighters classic “Everlong” is currently at number 1 58 in the UK Singles Chart, while The Pretender (2007) and Best Of You (2005) re-entered at Nos. 95 and 100 respectively.

The music world condoles

Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room at the age of 50 during his band’s world tour. At the time, the Foo Fighters were in the Colombian capital, Bogotá. In a statement, they confirmed the news of their drummer’s death and said they were “devastated by the tragic and untimely loss” of their bandmate.

Since the news broke, many other personalities from the music and entertainment world have shared their tributes and memories of the musician online; Artists such as Liam Gallagher, Elton John and Coldplay dedicated their performances to Hawkins.

Hawkins had ten different substances in his body

On Saturday evening (March 26), the Colombian Attorney General stated in an official statement that a urine test had detected various medications and drugs in Taylor Hawkins’ body: “The toxicological analysis revealed ten different types of substances, including THC – the found in marijuana – tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids,” the investigators said in their statement. At the moment it is still unclear whether this toxic mixture also led to the death of the musician.
