Russian troops have crossed the river, which runs in an arc in the region from the east, the Ukrainian army said. There, the Russians are trying to push the Ukrainian forces back to a new defense line between Siversk, Soledar and Bachmoet. These three towns are located about 30 to 40 km east of the Slovyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. The Ukrainian army has its headquarters there for the fighting in the Donbas.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed in the night from Sunday to Monday that the army has withdrawn from Lysychansk, yet he does not consider the city lost.
Earlier on Sunday, the mayor of Slovyansk already reported that several thirds were killed and injured in Russian shelling on the city. He spoke of the heaviest shelling of the city since the start of the Russian invasion in late February.
