Konstanze Klosterhalfen will only start over 5,000 m at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene. The bronze medalist from Doha recently struggled with a corona disease and will not run the 10,000 m. This was announced by the German Athletics Association on Friday afternoon.
For Germany’s best middle and long distance runner, Eugene is practically a home World Cup. Three and a half years ago, Klosterhalfen moved her training focus to coach Pete Julian in the US state of Oregon. After a difficult Olympic year in 2021, the 2019 World Cup third over 5,000 m is getting back on track.
However, the 25-year-old was recently struggling with a corona infection – which is why she was unable to start at the German championships in Berlin. The global level on the long stadium routes is extremely high – another medal over 5,000 m (final on July 24th, 2022 at 3:25 a.m. CEST) from “Koko” would be a big surprise.
