The collaboration between Holger Rune and Boris Becker only lasted four months. Now the Dane is returning to his roots.
Young tennis star Holger Rune has found a new coach a good two weeks after Boris Becker’s resignation. The 20-year-old Dane returns to his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou. “Sometimes you have to try different things to find out what works and what doesn’t,” Rune wrote on X on Wednesday. Becker wished the duo “good luck” via X.
Rune and Becker ended their four-month collaboration at the beginning of February. Tennis idol Becker realized that he would have to be available to Rune “as a coach much more than I can. Due to professional and private obligations, I cannot give Holger what he needs,” Becker said.
Rune: “Celebrated some of my greatest successes with Patrick”
Now the seventh in the world rankings is making a new attempt under the successful French coach Mouratoglou, who Rune has known since he was 13 years old. “In the last few months I have learned a lot about what is important to me,” wrote Rune: “I have celebrated some of my greatest successes with Patrick and I believe that he can help me achieve my goals.”
Mouratoglou wrote on Instagram that he “always believed in his potential” at Rune: “He has big goals – and I with him. This is the start of a new adventure.”
