After 23 years of collecting Disney characters, Aalsmelaar Rien Vogelvang thinks it’s been enough. Not because his collection of more than 30,000 (!) items is now complete, but because he simply has no more space.
As a little boy, Rien had nothing to do with Disney, but when he visited Disneyland in the United States in 2000, he was caught by the virus. His first items were two Donald Duck figurines, he told earlier The parole. When NH visited him seven years ago, the counter was already over 21,000.

At the time, he already needed three barns for this, but by selling his cups and saucers, he created some space for new acquisitions. About 9,000 to be precise, because today the counter stands at more than 30,000 figures.
“For me, this collection is complete,” Rien tells NH reporter Mohammed Almousa. “But when I look at what’s being made all over the world, I don’t even have half of it. If I want to have it all, I have to build three more of those sheds.”
International guests
His collection attracts the necessary attention, including from Disney enthusiasts abroad: “America, England, they come from all over,” he says. And Rien likes to show his collection, which is also appreciated by visitors. If only because he doesn’t ask for it.
“When I’m gone, everything will go to the Ronald McDonald house”
For example, a few weeks ago he received a visit from someone who had recently visited another museum and had paid fifteen euros for it. “He said he hadn’t seen half of what he saw here. This is really impressive, he said.”
will
And what happens to his collection when Rien is no longer there one day? “I had a will made. Then everything will go to the Ronald McDonald house, where parents can spend the night with sick children in the hospital.”
