Manuel Neuer leaves the pitch after a red card

As of: December 10, 2024 7:17 p.m

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has appealed against his ban for two cup games. The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) announced this and named Thursday (December 12th) at 3 p.m. as the date for the oral hearing.

Neuer, who is currently injured, will be connected via video, according to the DFB announcement. The meeting at the DFB campus in Frankfurt will be chaired by Stephan Oberholz, chairman of the DFB sports court. Neuer was sent off by referee Harm Osmers in the 17th minute of Bayern’s 1-0 defeat in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen after a violent check on Jeremie Frimpong. For the 38-year-old, it was the first ever dismissal in his professional career.

DFB verdict typical of the type of offense

“According to established DFB case law, preventing an obvious goal-scoring opportunity through a non-serious foul without subsequently scoring a goal usually results in a ban of two games.”wrote the DFB in its reasons for the judgment.
