Lil Durk was injured on Saturday (July 30) at the 2022 Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago. The pyrotechnics on stage exploded in his face. The rapper had to be treated in the hospital.
Durk was in the middle of his verse of the pooh shiesty track “Back In Blood” when he accidentally ran into a pyrotechnic cannon and was hit in the face by two explosive smoke bombs. It was immediately clear that something was wrong: according to eyewitnesses, he stumbled backwards and covered his face with his hands. The show was then interrupted and crew members rushed to his aid. “Whoa! You alright bro?” his DJ could be heard saying in the background. The rapper was apparently badly injured in the accident. On Instagram he shared a photo showing him blindfolded.
According to reports from Page Six, the rapper still finished his set. “Fuck it, no more smoke, let’s continue,” he is said to have said and continued to perform.
In his post, he also explained that he was taken to a hospital straight after the festival. He wrote: “Due to the incident that happened onstage at the Lollapalooza in Chicago, I’m going to take a break and focus on my health. I finished my performance yesterday for my fans. I thank you all.”
Lil Durk: “7220 Deluxe” tour should still take place
He was originally scheduled to play a headline show in Boston on August 13 before beginning his 7220 Deluxe tour in mid-September. Lil Durk deliberately plans the announced break before his tour in order to be able to start it in time on September 10th in Orlando, Florida.
The rapper made headlines last month with another festival appearance. He brought Kanye West on stage as a guest at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. West had been scheduled to headline the event until he canceled his appearance a few days earlier without giving a reason. Nevertheless, he appeared on Durk’s show and performed with him on the current single “Hot Shit”, which they co-produced with rapper Cardi B.
