After Prime Day in July: Amazon announces Prime event in October

• Biggest Prime Day ever in July
• Two prime events per year for the first time
• Increased costs for Prime subscription could spoil Amazon action

Most successful Prime Day ever

On July 12th and 13th, the US mail order company Amazon again attracted numerous customers with its Prime Day. As part of the two-day shopping event, the provider promised big discounts on products in many categories. However, the special offers were only available to customers who also subscribed to Amazon’s premium service Prime. In addition to faster and free shipping, the US company promises Prime members access to the Prime Video streaming service, a selection of e-books and playing two million selected songs.

The procedure seems to have paid off: As Amazon announced just one day after the shopping event, this year’s Prime Day was the largest edition of all time. “Amazon Prime members worldwide saved more than 1.7 billion US dollars,” said the Seattle-based group. “This year was the biggest Prime Day event for Amazon’s distributors, most of whom are small and medium-sized businesses […].”

Another prime event in October

The world’s largest online shop has now announced that it is planning another sales event in October. On October 11th and 12th Amazon invites you to numerous special offers under the name “Prime Exclusive Offers”. In addition to low prices for products from the company’s own technology division, including the Fire TV Stick streaming player or the Echo Dot smart speaker, many items from third-party manufacturers are also being reduced again.

Two Prime events a year for the first time

Although the forthcoming bargains are not the first time that exclusive Prime offers have been offered in October, Amazon has only invited people to Prime Day once a year so far. In the first Corona year 2020, the mail order company postponed the prime event from July to October because online trade with the closures of retail stores was already in high demand at that time and they did not want to put an additional burden on the parcel deliverers. Apparently, however, the online giant took a liking to the fall sale date.

Amazon is thus presenting its offers well ahead of Black Friday. The shopping event from the USA, which takes place on the Friday after Thanksgiving and falls on November 25 this year, is usually also accompanied by offers from Amazon and is considered an opportunity to snag one or the other bargain as a Christmas present .

Prime subscription has become more expensive

However, it remains to be seen whether the forthcoming Prime event will overtake Prime Day in July and become a complete success again. At the end of July, just a few days after the end of the last series of offers, the group announced that it would increase the prices for Prime membership. Instead of the previous 7.99 euros per month, 8.99 euros are now due. Annual membership now costs EUR 89.90 instead of EUR 69. The reason given was increased costs due to high inflation rates.
