After Pelé’s death, five world champions from 1958 are still alive

The death of Brazilian soccer legend Pelé (82) is also mourned by the five remaining world champions from 1958.

Mario Zagallo (91), Pepe (87), Dino Sani (90), Mazzola (84) and Moacir (86) are still alive from the Selecao, who disenchanted the World Cup hosts Sweden 5-2 in the final. Pelé’s star had risen at the finals as a 17-year-old with two goals in the final.

“Today the world stops crying and says goodbye to the greatest of all. The king of football,” said Zagallo via Instagram. The “Old Wolf” had won the 1962 World Cup alongside Pelé and led the “King” to his third crown in 1970 as coach of the Selecao in Mexico.
