“It’s a shame to have to leave the Tour de France in this way,” said Kool through her team. “I felt good in the training sessions earlier this week and had hoped to get through the first two stages to the larger sprint opportunities on day three and four.”
Kool ended on Saturday in the first stage as 119th, at a considerable distance from winner Marianne Vos. Last year she won the first two rides and wore the yellow leader’s jersey for two days.
The second ride will go over 110 kilometers from Brest to Quimper on Sunday. The fourth edition of the French stage race in the current form has nine stages and ends on Sunday 3 August in the Les Portes du Soleil ski area.
