Exciting commitment. From my point of view, Aachen’s performance this season has less to do with the quality of the squad. It seems to be more of a mental thing, because the players can’t have forgotten how to play football over the summer. I see the quality of the squad as definitely higher than in Cologne, Oberhausen or here.
I have mixed feelings about Backhaus’ commitment. On the one hand, he seems to be a motivator and people catcher. One for which the players tear themselves up on the pitch. On the other hand, he has not uprooted any trees on his stations and has never stayed longer.
Without knowing him better, he doesn’t seem to be the most loyal when pushing through a mid-season move, even though he’s been through all the preparation at BFC and was also allowed to help shape the squad. Puts him in a bad light before he even completes a workout. If he delivers and any club from the third division comes next season, he’ll probably be gone again.
