The schools informed the makers of Smartschool about a remarkable trend on the popular app TikTok. In addition, videos are shared with photos that came from the school platform.
In ‘Het Nieuwsblad’, a director testified that lists were circulating on TikTok in which the photos of students were assessed. This concerns, for example, videos in which girls are ‘ranked’ on the basis of their profile photos. Or lists of so-called ‘high class’ and ‘margi’ students, or of couples at school.
“We took swift action,” said Smartschool spokesperson Sergio Destino. “Pupils will no longer be able to see the photos of their fellow students, unless the school itself decides to make them visible again.” Teachers will still be able to see the photos.
