After historic Moroccan World Cup victory: exuberant car caravan passes through Kortrijk city center
An estimated hundred Moroccan supporters built a party in the Kortrijk station area on Tuesday evening. Honking cars moved in column from Stationsplein towards Schouwburgplein and back. There were no irregularities. Occasionally a bomb or a firecracker exploded, but that was it.
The Moroccan fans exuberantly celebrated the victory against former World Cup winner Spain, making Morocco the only African country to qualify for the quarterfinals. Moroccan flags were raised and many young people gathered on Kortrijk’s Stationsplein to celebrate. In the streets around the Kortrijk station it was difficult to get out and back by car. But for the revelers, that was the least of their worries: Morocco surprises the world at the World Cup.
