9th in 96 record player ranking
Ron-Robert Zieler’s contract at Hannover 96 has reportedly been automatically extended by another year until 2024 after his 25th season. The goalkeeper completed this on Sunday in the Lower Saxony derby at Eintracht Braunschweig. Overall, it was the 305th game for the 34-year-old for Lower Saxony, to which he returned in 2021 from 1. FC Köln. In the statistics of the 96 record players, Zieler is in ninth place. The club has not confirmed the extension.
For the six-time national player and world champion from 2014, it is already the third stop in Hanover, where he found his way from Manchester United in 2010. Six years later, the native of Cologne moved back to England to join Leicester City, where he failed to establish himself as number one and switched to VfB Stuttgart a year later. In 2019 Zieler returned to 96 for a year, but was loaned out to “Effzeh” the following season before returning to Maschsee in 2021.
Zieler breaks the 300 mark: the record players from Hannover 96
Most recently, when he cracked the 300 mark, he said: “Incredible, 300 is a proud number. And almost everything was there: Europa League, Bundesliga, Cup, 2nd League. It’s been a long road and a long time. A lot has happened.” What the keeper, who can well imagine ending his career in Hanover, still lacks in his 96-year record is a title. Zieler, who worked for the “Foxes” at the time, was also not present at the 2017 re-emergence celebration.
