After Henry Cavill’s Superman-Aus: DC boss defends himself against Shitstorm

James Gunn defends himself against his critics. The head of DC Studios, who has only been in office since November 1, is currently being heavily challenged on social media for some decisions. Among other things, the person responsible for the DC Comics cinema universe had canceled the film adaptation of “Wonder Woman 3” and relieved Henry Cavill of his role as “Superman”.

“Difficult and not so obvious decisions”

In response to the Shitstorm’s barrage, Gunn has now posted a detailed statement on Instagram and Twitter. Even when he took over the management of the film studio together with Peter Safran, he was aware of how “short-tempered and unfriendly” a minority of people on the Internet could be.

However, according to him, the steps taken since then are “based on what we think is best for the story and the DC characters that have been around for almost 85 years.” Maybe the “difficult and not so obvious” choices are great, maybe not. “But they are met with a sincere heart and integrity and always with the story in mind,” said the 56-year-old. An “disrespectful outcry” will never influence the actions of the leadership duo – and mean little compared to the tasks as creator and guardian of DC.

Gunn holds the reins firmly in his own hands

It is currently still unclear how exactly the future schedule for the comic film adaptations at Warner will look like. However, James Gunn has announced that he will reveal details about the new strategy and the first productions under his aegis early next year. According to the American, the story of the next “Superman” film adaptation should focus on the early days of the superhero and therefore come up with a different actor. In the course of the realignment, the co-CEO doesn’t seem to want to leave anything to chance: he writes the script himself.
