After Ghent’s cycling drama: how do you effectively keep drivers with a driving ban off the track? Two police judges give their unvarnished opinion | Domestic

The driver who caused two fatal traffic victims in Ghent on Sunday morning while under the influence has already been convicted twice for driving under the influence. His driver’s license was revoked. But that was of no avail. The eternal problem: how can we effectively keep repeat offenders with a driving ban off the road? We asked Peter D’Hondt and retired judge Peter Vandamme – the two most famous and perhaps also most feared police judges in Flanders. “Some simply hand in their driver’s license at the clerk’s office with the message: You don’t think this is going to stop me, do you?”
