This year, relatively speaking, the most burglaries were committed in the municipalities of Boekel, Gilze en Rijen and Sint-Michielsgestel. This is apparent from an analysis by the ANP based on police figures.

The number of burglaries has been falling for years. This year saw an increase for the first time. Burglars struck a total of 17,300 times across the Netherlands this year. In the same period last year, there were 16,100 burglaries. That is an increase of seven percent.
According to the police, this has to do with the corona measures. “In 2021, the number of home burglaries was exceptionally low because many people were working from home. When that was no longer necessary, the number of burglaries also increased again,” explains Sybren van der Velden, national project leader for home burglary at the police.
The number of burglaries is still much lower than before corona. Five years ago, almost twice as many burglaries were recorded as this year.
