Viktoria Berlin lost the first competitive game of the year after the Corona malaise.
At 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the newly promoted third division team lost 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday and couldn’t move further from the relegation zone. Julian Niehues (41st minute) and Philipp Hercher (64th) scored the goals for the superior hosts in the Fritz-Walter-Stadion on Saturday.
In the first game without their top striker Tolgay Cigerci, who was transferred to Samsunspor in the second Turkish football league, Viktoria was only able to set a few offensive accents. With 26 points, the Berliners remain in twelfth place, five points ahead of a relegation zone. Kaiserslautern continues to play for promotion to the second division.

“It’s pointless to always talk about Corona. It affects all clubs,” said sports director Rocco Teichmann at Magentasport before kick-off. However, the team of coach Benedetto Muzzicato noticed that after numerous infections and the long break, the rhythm of the game was missing. Lucas Falcao (10th) presented himself with a good opportunity. Moritz Seifert (36th) shot over the goal. Otherwise Viktoria was mostly on the defensive.
Kenny Prince Redondo (37th) could have given FCK the lead, but then Niehues headed in a little later. Hercher’s goal removed the last doubts. Viktoria goalkeeper Julian Krahl even prevented a higher defeat several times.
There was excitement in the overall very hectic game with two controversial possible penalty scenes. After Lukas Pinckert’s tackle, Daniel Hanslik (35th) went down. Niehues fell in a duel with Shinji Yamada (66th). Both times referee Robin Braun allowed play to continue, much to the Palatinate’s annoyance. The decisions did not change anything about the Victoria defeat.
