After conviction roof box murder, Jan Willem H. (53) from Assen still wants a psychiatric examination. This is his goal

“There is nothing wrong with me,” the suspect in the roof box murder from Assen told the court a little over six months ago. But now Jan Willem H. (53) still wants to participate in a personality test at the Pieter Baan Center.

In fact, his lawyer asked the court in Leeuwarden for this on Wednesday. Dental technician H. was sentenced to 12 years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment by the court in Assen last autumn for manslaughter of his ex-wife and hiding her body. The Public Prosecutor had demanded 17 years in prison.

Both H. and the Public Prosecution Service have appealed.

Eva Balogh, H.’s ex, had been missing for a long time when her body was found in February 2022 in a roof box in the Orange Canal. H. had already strangled her in March 2020 and kept her body hidden in a roof box in a garage box. Nearly two years later, he dumped the suitcase containing her body in the canal.

For the second time to PBC

De Assenaar had to go from the court to the Pieter Baan Center, but he refused to cooperate in a psychological examination. At his own request, he is now returning to the PBC. His goal is probably to get a lesser prison sentence or no TBS. It is not yet known when the appeal will be heard substantively.
