Was one of the most valuable clubless
Youcef Belaïli has found a new employer just under two weeks after terminating his contract at Stade Brest. Ligue 1 club AC Ajaccio announced the signing of the left winger on Wednesday evening. The 30-year-old signed a contract with the Corsican until the end of the current season. With a market value of 1.8 million euros, he was previously one of the 15 most valuable unsigned players.
Belaïli should help the white-red team to keep up the class. After the tenth day of play, the promoted team is third from bottom in the table. “We went for it because we know his qualities: he can eliminate any player anywhere on the pitch. He’s crucial, he can score goals and provide assists. He’s a very complete player. We know Youcef is here because some things happened, but in our situation we weigh the pros and cons,” said sports coordinator Johan Cavalli.
In doing so, he alluded to the quite eventful past of the right-footed player, which was characterized by rapid changes in some cases. In 2017, after a two-year doping ban, the Algerian was in the service of Angers SCO for four months, but only played one game for the club before moving on to Esperance Tunis. Belaïli had contributed seven goals in 19 games for Brest since arriving in January this year. Ajaccio is now his third stop in France.
