A baby did not survive an accident with a car it was in on Saturday afternoon on the Oude Bredasebaan in Chaam. The child died Saturday evening. Earlier in the day, a four-year-old child was killed in the accident, which happened just before 5 a.m. A third child and their mother were seriously injured. The car had gone off the road for unknown reasons and collided with a tree.
Several ambulances and the fire brigade came to the scene of the accident after the report. Two air ambulances were also called in. Rescuers tried to resuscitate the four-year-old child, but the child died on the spot. The second child, less than a year old, later died in hospital. All occupants were related to each other.
Accident investigation
It is unclear what caused the car to leave the road. Police traffic specialists are investigating the cause of the accident. “To the best of our knowledge, it was a single-vehicle accident, with no other vehicle involved,” said a police spokesman.
