FOOTBALL – Four months after his resignation from FC Groningen, Mark-Jan Fledderus from Coevorden has a new job. He becomes technical manager at the Eredivisie CV, which represents the interests of all clubs in the premier league.
In this organization, De Drent will be involved in policy matters. In the long term, he will focus on the competition set-up, matchday calendar, playing surface, youth academy, promise teams, transfer windows and the football pyramid.
Jan de Jong, the director of the Eredivisie CV, calls the arrival of Fledderus ‘a next step in the further professionalization’ of the interest group. “Mark-Jan knows what it’s like to play football in the premier league and what it’s like to be technical director at a club in the premier league,” he says. “And in that last role he was always actively involved in the collective.”
Fledderus was sent away from FC Groningen at the beginning of February. According to the club, there was “insufficient confidence and perspective” to continue cooperation with the former footballer. The causes of FC Groningen’s relegation are often referred to as Fledderus’ actions. De Jong: “Not everything he touched in his career turned into gold, no, but who did? In addition, he is quite self-critical and he has an enormous learning capacity.”
Fledderus says he is looking forward to his new challenge. “It is a huge honor to be able to contribute to the sporting technical development of this from this role. We will do everything we can to facilitate the clubs that make the premier league as well as possible in the sporting technical field.”
