After parting from FK Krasnodar
Rémy Cabella is among the most valuable players to leave Russia as part of FIFA’s special transfer window in recent days. The Frenchman ended his contract with FK Krasnodar, which originally ran until June 30, 2022, while he was in France recovering from an injury he sustained at a training camp in Marbella in February.

Due to the injury, “I asked the club if I could visit my family in Corsica. Then I heard about tensions in the region. I called the club and they told me not to worry and I could come back on March 2nd,” Cabella said in an interview with the “L’Equipe“. That never happened, on March 9th the winger canceled his working paper.
After two and a half years in Krasnodar, which Cabella bought from AS St.-Étienne for 12 million euros, the Frenchman already has a number of offers on the table. “I want to enjoy the time I have left. I had offers from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but I preferred to say no – just like with the US. I want to stay in Europe, earn a little less and focus on sports,” said Cabella, who began his professional career in 2009 at Montpellier HSC.

When St.-Étienne’s home win against FC Metz (1-0), Cabella visited his ex-colleagues who are in a relegation battle (to the Ligue 1 table). Club legend Loïc Perrin (36), who has been working as sports coordinator since December 2021, “called me and asked if I could stop by the fan shop for some photos before the game. Of course I said yes and when I was there it was an incredible atmosphere. It really touched me,” Cabella said. There would have been no talks about a commitment for the season finale because he had to get fit again first, but “the only club I would even sign for three months is Sainté”. The veteran, who played for the Greens from 2017 to 2019, would “even play for them for free”.
Clubless Cabella looking to ‘make a decision in the next few days’
However, a move to Greece to Olympiacos Piraeus seems more likely. “There are negotiations, that’s true. It’s a great club, playing for the title and to play in the Champions League. On top of that, Yann M’Vila is here! We know each other well, I had a great time with him at Sainté and he told me good things. It’s a club that interests me, but I also have other offers. I’ll make my decision in the next few days.”
Cabella definitely wants to hang on for a few more years because “I have a passion for football and the desire to keep working – that’s what drives me. Well, I didn’t always have that. I started really working when I was 27 or 28, but now I’ve got the taste for it.” The offensive all-rounder generated the majority of his transfers after his 26th birthday: Olympique Marseille, St.-Étienne and Krasnodar, his services were worth a total of EUR 26 million.
