National soccer player Kevin Schade has separated from his agent because of derogatory statements made by his agent Maik Barthel about Marie-Louise Eta after she was appointed assistant coach of Bundesliga club Union Berlin.
The 21-year-old offensive player from English Premier League club FC Brentford confirmed this to the pay TV channel Sky. “I have separated from my advisor because I absolutely do not share his attitude and ideas and I cannot let them stand for me either. I stand for openness, equality and diversity – and that is how I would like to feel represented.”said Schade.
Eta was promoted to the position of assistant coach at Union last week as part of the reshuffle following the separation from head coach Urs Fischer. Barthel had ridiculed the personality on social media and indirectly denied Eta’s competence.
Later, the former advisor to the Polish ex-world footballer Robert Lewandowski deleted his statement and instead described Eta’s “promotion” as a pure maneuver by the Berliners to distract from supposedly bigger problems.
