Dozens of cars went up in flames in a four-storey car park on the Blasewitzer Ring in Wilhelmstadt on Wednesday. But many more vehicles could be affected.
At 8.26 a.m. the emergency call was received by the Berlin fire brigade. Black smoke rose above the city. A short time later, the warning apps “Nina” and “Katwarn” also triggered, warning of heavy smoke development in the north of Berlin.
The fire spread to three floors of the parking garage. “16 cars, 23 motorcycles, 2 car trailers and pieces of furniture” were on fire, according to the fire department. A spokesman said a total of around 150 vehicles were affected.
A local resident was injured in the fire and was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. Around 100 emergency services were on site.
The fire was under control after about two hours. The cause is still unclear. The users affected by the fire are not allowed to enter the garage – danger of collapse!
