As of today, construction work for a temporary Albert Heijn will start on the derelict Sonneborn site along Spaarndamseweg. From September 5, this supermarket will replace the Albert Heijn on Soendaplein, which suffered major damage due to a fire on Friday, August 11.
A spokesperson for the supermarket chain told NH. In recent days, an alternative location has been sought in the vicinity of Soendaplein for a temporary replacement for the damaged supermarket. So the choice fell on the plot along the Spaarne.

This week is the prep work. The temporary store will be built from next Monday. It will open its doors on September 5 for customers who can no longer go to Soendaplein. Sufficient parking spaces will also be built around the temporary supermarket.
‘Supermarket damaged before the end of the year open again’
It is expected that the repair work in the heavily damaged supermarket will take several months. The spokesperson says that this store will reopen before the end of the year. The temporary location will then close again. Fences will be placed around that location, which will be closed after closing time.
Fire
The fire broke out on August 11 in a truck in the loading and unloading area of the store on Soendaplein. That is where the greatest damage is. The rest of the store also suffered significant damage from fire extinguishing water and soot.

Homes and garage
The municipality wants to build an above-ground garage and homes on the Sonnebornterrein. That is against the sore leg of a group of local residents, who prefer to use the site as a city park. For the time being, they will first have to make do with Albert as a neighbor. Fences will be placed around the temporary supermarket, which will be closed after closing time.
