On the other hand, after three intense seasons without a summer break, he is happy “that the national coach agrees with me that I need this break and supports me in it”.
Flick showed understanding for Ter Stegen. “Marc is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Due to injuries, however, he has not been able to use the summer breaks to regenerate in the past two years.”, said the 57-year-old. Especially with regard to the upcoming World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year, both agreed that “that a normal game and training break this year is important and makes sense”.
DFB team against Italy on June 4th
Ter Stegen’s season in the Spanish league ends on May 22nd. A day later, the Flick team moves into a four-day training camp in Marbella. From May 30th, the team will meet in Herzogenaurach. The Nations League starts on June 4th with the game in Bologna against European champions Italy, after which the DFB selection continues against England on June 7th in Munich. This is followed by the games in Budapest on June 11 against Hungary and the second leg against Italy on June 14 in Mönchengladbach.
