On Wednesday, February 21, around 6 a.m., a home burglary took place in Zwevegem, during which a vehicle and a laptop were stolen. Shortly afterwards, two more home burglaries followed in Spiere-Helkijn. At one of the homes, the burglars were caught by the residents and fled. The perpetrators did not enter the other home. According to witnesses, at least four suspects were involved.
Mira police zone, with the assistance of surrounding police zones, was able to trace the burglars and started a pursuit of the vehicle in which the suspects were traveling. The chase led to Pecq where the perpetrators were able to escape.
The stolen vehicle eventually crashed in Spiere-Helkijn. The driver fled the scene on foot and was later arrested with the help of a sniffer dog and a helicopter.
One of the suspects, a 20-year-old man from France, was brought before the investigating judge yesterday, who decided to take the man into custody. The judicial investigation will now continue.
