After 81 years, ship of major shipping disaster has been found: torpedoed by Americans, who did not know it was full of prisoners of war

Dutch soil researcher Fugro helped find a ship that sank off the coast of the Philippines in 1942. The Montevideo Maru was found at a depth of over 4,000 meters. The Japanese ship, carrying nearly a thousand Australians, sank in an attack by an American submarine during World War II. Civilians from at least 13 other countries were also killed in this worst shipping disaster in Australian history.
