The KNRM and the German rescue service scoured the North Sea for hours last week looking for two missing friends. After floating around for 17 hours, the two were located and returned unharmed to Eemshaven. Watch here how the KNRM and the Coast Guard rescue Rense (19) and Cees (21).

The college friends were on their way from Terschelling to Borkum, but their boat capsized above Schiermonnikoog. The boys had run into problems due to the wind and high waves. The boat flipped over and the mast broke off.

Although they managed to straighten their ship, they float around for hours. The boys saw the lights of the lifeboats and helicopter at night, but were unable to signal because their phones had gone overboard.

With several vehicles and a helicopter, the perilous rescue operation was finally completed.

Back at the harbor they were met by emotional family and friends and reunited with them. The boys are unharmed and in good health.
