After 10 years, another Ironman triathlon in our country

It has been more than ten years since our country welcomed the Ironman. Knokke-Heist is very proud that they now have a five-year contract with the organization. Some traffic disruption is expected. Jan Morbee, alderman for sport Knokke-Heist: “It is unique, it has been ten years since Ironman organized a competition in Belgium. We have good contacts, but it still took ten years to fully convince them. Voila, they are standing. here. A dream comes true.”

The excellent reputation of the Zwintriathlon ensured that the Ironman organizers chose Knokke. Thibault Vellard, Ironman: “We talked to Knokke-Heist. They know how to do it, there is a triathlon story here. There is also a beautiful course. We have seen that over the past twenty years with the Zwintriathlon. It was the perfect place to host an event like Ironman. Two in fact, Saturday and Sunday.”

Tomorrow there will be a quarter triathlon to replace the Zwin triathlon. A half triathlon is on the program on Sunday: 1.9 kilometers swimming, 90 kilometers cycling and 21 kilometers running. The trail is very flat. But there is some wind. Knokke-Heist expects more than 100,000 visitors this weekend.
