Afsluitdijk towards Friesland closed due to technical failure, traffic on one half of the road

Part of the Afsluitdijk was closed to traffic this morning due to a technical malfunction. The ANWB reports that traffic in both directions will be diverted over one half of the road.

Due to a technical malfunction at the Lorentz locks, the Afsluitdijk towards Friesland is closed to traffic. Where traffic first had to detour via the polder in Flevoland, traffic now travels in both directions on one half of the road.

Frequent malfunctions

Despite the semi-closure, the delays seem to be not too bad. Only at the junction Breezanddijk and Kornwerderzand is a traffic jam of 2 km. The delay can be up to twenty minutes.

It is the second time in a week that the Afsluitdijk has been hit by a malfunction. Last week Thursday this was also the case. Due to a malfunction at the Stevin locks, the dike was closed to traffic all afternoon. It is not known whether the outage from then and now are related.
