Afsluitdijk towards Den Oever closed due to accident between several cars

The Afsluitdijk towards Den Oever is currently closed to traffic because there has been a collision between several vehicles.

A police spokeswoman said five people were injured. “One person was trapped in his vehicle. Everyone was taken to hospital.”

An air ambulance was called for, but it was eventually cancelled.

Road closed

It is not yet clear how the accident could have happened, which is currently being investigated by the Traffic Accident Analysis (VOA).

Due to the investigation, the road towards Amsterdam has been closed for some time and there is a long traffic jam. Rijkswaterstaat expects the road to be open again around 8.30 p.m. Drivers from Zurich are advised to drive via Groningen/Emmeloord (A7, A6, A1).
