Netflix and Microsoft have started a collaboration to bring a new monthly subscription to Netflix, which is cheaper than the current basic subscription, but which contains advertisements. Netflix told about it in its announcement.
Netflix has not yet revealed how much the future subscription will cost.
In the spring, Netflix told how it has struggled with the loss of users. The company was already talking about the possibility of introducing advertisements as part of the service, even though that was not the intention at first. The battle for subscribers is fierce, which has made Netflix change its operations.
CEO of Netflix Ted Sarandos said last month that the company has discussed with other companies ways to implement a more affordable subscription contract.
Netflix announced on Thursday that it has selected a global advertising solution produced by Microsoft for a “lower-cost ad subscription”. Chief Operating Officer of Netflix Greg Peters said that Microsoft offers a solution for all the company’s needs. Peters also highlighted the protection of user privacy, which Microsoft is capable of responding to.
Director of Network Operations at Microsoft Mikhail Prakhin said in Microsoft’s own announcement that customers will soon have more options to access Netflix content.
– Marketers who want to use Microsoft for their advertising needs will reach the Netflix audience as well as the selection of high-end televisions. All ads shown on Netflix are delivered through the Microsoft platform.
