Affordable and not too far away: camping at the farm is on the rise

Small-scale farm campsites were already doing well in corona times. And that trend continues. Due to inflation and high fuel prices, people are more likely to spend their holidays in their own country. The fact that camping at the farm is relatively affordable also plays a role in the increasing popularity this year.

“Farm campsites have no swimming pools, no tennis courts, no discos and no restaurants. Because we don’t have to invest in them, we can keep the price low. And there is currently a need for that,” says Bas van Mill, chairman of the Free Recreation Foundation (SVR).

Chantal Jansen, who owns Camping ‘t Oude Willemsveldt in Oude Willem with her husband, has indeed noticed that bookings are going well. “In the past, people waited to book until they were sure the weather would be nice. Now they book earlier to make sure they have a spot.”

Jansen was today at the SVR holiday fair in Martinaplaza in Groningen. “We are there to acquire new customers and to have contact with people who have been coming for years. It is very busy this year. They are all nice people. They are really interested and really want to get out. they camp again.”
