Under the motto of being “a horizontal, collaborative and self-managed project”, the new Affair art fair proposes a different model, in which the participating galleries articulate a dialogue between themselves and the exhibited works. The spaces that bring together emerging artists with vast experience are: Gabelich Contemporáneo from Rosario, Lyv gallery, Sasha D Espacio de Arte, Tierra y Maria Wonda from Córdoba, Acéfala, TokonOMa, Ungallery, Wunsch Gallery, Quimera, OdA art offices, and OTTO gallery of Buenos Aires.
“Everything arose seeing the need to generate spaces for the visibility and commercialization of works by our artists, and also taking advantage of the synergy of arteba. Both proposals are in art week in CABA, which gave us the opportunity to present a new project on these dates. The concept of this fair has to do with a much more dynamic spatial organization, connected between galleries, and also has as a particular feature that the exhibition has a general curator, who has worked with the galleries and with the artists, whose pieces go talking to each other,” he explained. gabelichone of the coordinators of Affair.
The meeting proposal will be inaugurated on August 31 at 6:00 p.m. in the Saldias Cultural Center and it can be visited from September 1 to 2, from 3 to 9 p.m., with free and free entry. “The initial idea of this fair is that it be self-managed, collaborative and horizontal, for this reason there is a very strong presence in relation to that and to the creation of community. That is the general concept of the entire spatial structure for everything to function as a living organism. This is the zero edition, in which we are going to experiment”, detailed the referent of Contemporary Gabelich de Rosario about the exhibition space.
“Affair’s proposal is to be an art fair that can sell works, but with a common exhibition space, where there is a curatorial discourse that goes through the entire selection and articulates them, carried out by the curator Carlos Gutierrez and, also, an assembly project, by the architect Ariel Jacubovich. They, articulating works, galleries and artists, make up this journey where the pan is supported one on the other and the pieces dialogue in a different way. That spirit reflects our motto,” he said. Barbara Echevarria of Headless Gallery.
The enterprise of these twelve galleries, in its initial edition, will present a program for the public to become familiar with the artistic proposal. “My First Affair It is a proposal designed for you to buy your first work of art, the one you will never forget. We advise and accompany you in this first experience”, described the head of Headless Gallery. Other programs that accompany the meeting are the spontaneous talks of “Háblame que me gusta”, which is accompanied by the Cultural Center of Spain in Buenos Aires, and “Guided tours to discover Affair”, curated by Patricia Rizzo and Vanessa Catellani.
“We chose the room Luis Alberto Spinetta of the Saldias Cultural Pole in order to make the sample. A disruptive L-shaped design was thought out from the typical three-wall stand layout that is used in all fairs. This generates a broken and open route that allows the public to have another reading, added to an interrelationship between the galleries and the works. In the general curatorship, in charge of Gutiérrez, the galleries also have interference and we articulate with him about which are the works that are appropriate for the exhibition. From this selection, which was made with each gallery, the different affiliations between the works must be generated. On the other hand, certain objectives must be met: to be a sample of quality and, in turn, have the possibility that the works are sold”, he specified. Olga Martinezone of the coordinators of Affair involved in the assembly and holder of the TokonOMa Gallery.
“Those of us who make up Affair are galleries that work with medium-career artists, in some cases there are emerging artists, and there are artists with high prices. We aspire to all audiences, which is why Saldias is a possibility of opening up to another universe. An audience that consumes music, but still does not consume art”, Martínez said. “The reason why the selection of the place was my proposal, my two sons are musicians and they have their studios there. Of course, we were interested in the proximity to BA art in Salguero Coastfacilitating public access to the two fairs”, described Laura San Martín, one of the spokespersons for the gallery team.
“The meeting between galleries was quite spontaneous, it went through many stages, at first we were just a few. In the end we agreed to hold a fair, with a commercial purpose that we all have, both artists and gallery owners. The interest is that the public gets excited and that they are surprised, also generating the desire to buy works, with different ranges of values, so that it is accessible to the majority,” said the gallery owner. Laura San Martin and recalled: “The name Affair came up in the chat and we liked it, because of its idea of seduction, of discovering something new and finding that tone.”
