AFC Cup: Sogdiana run continues as Al-Riffa wins Bahraini derby

Uzbek representative Sogdiana Jizzakh continued their fabulous run in the AFC Cup with a narrow but deserved 1-0 win over Hong Kong’s Eastern SC. The club, which is appearing for the first time internationally, qualifies for the semi-finals thanks to Shokhruz Norkhonov’s goal (85th). There Sogdiana meets the winner of the duel ATK Mohun Bagan and Kuala Lumpur City.

In the West Asian quarter-finals, Bahraini doubles winners Al-Riffa SC beat runners-up East Riffa on penalties after nerve-wracking extra time in the local derby. After Ali Haram scored the opening goal to make it 1-0 in the 114th minute, Abdulla Shallal equalized just three minutes later. This puts Riffa SC in front of their best international result since 2010, when they last reached the semi-finals.
