aerodynamics and performance, where the teams work

The last F1 test session in Bahrain before the GP, which opens the World Championship on March 20, has many points of interest. First of all, the three days in Barcelona did not make it possible to draw up a realistic ranking in terms of performance of the individual cars. Almost all of them, with the exception of Alfa Romeo, have covered a high mileage, thus emphasizing the reliability of their respective vehicles more than pure performance. Nothing else could have been expected, given the fact that these are completely new cars, with no data available compared to the past. However, a problem common to all, or almost all, has emerged, except for McLaren. The obvious reference is to porpoising, or the “aerodynamic rebound” that shakes the cars on the straight, like the effect that turbulence generates on an airplane. Starting from this common fact, but also from a careful analysis of the work program carried out by the teams in Spain, let’s try to outline what might be what they will play in this session, especially the teams that occupy the upper half of the grid.
