Ukraine international soccer player Yevhen Shakhov from AEK Athens has taken his wife, newborn daughter and mother-in-law from the Ukraine-Romania border in a 60-hour trip. The family had previously fled the capital Kyiv from the Russian invaders.
“I picked up my wife, her mother and my child at the border. From there we drove to Bucharest, then to Sofia and then here. We were on the road for two and a half days,” said the 31-year-old in the northern Greek border town Promachonas.
He had “seen many cars from Ukraine and many people who tried to save their lives and that of their children by leaving the country. It’s sad. My father, mother and brother are still in Kyiv.” Shakhov’s daughter Amelia was born just a week ago.
