A group of 15 adventurers from Zaandam and the surrounding area have a great adventure waiting for them in Sweden and Finland. They participate in the winter edition of the Carbage run, a puzzle road trip through wild territory. The weather conditions will play a major role, expects participant Michael Leegwater: “It is -30 there at night and there is little light: the sun rises at half past ten and sets again at ten past two. It will be quite an adventure.”

Last year Michael participated, together with three other friends. Then they tore through Sweden and Norway. The men really enjoyed it and, inspired by the adventures, decided to register again. This time the route from Malmö heads north, without ferries, around the Gulf of Bothnia and then south towards Helsinki.
The group has become somewhat larger compared to last year: cousins, neighbors and other friends have joined. Fifteen men are going along, divided into four cars.

Robin Roode is one of the new participants. “We bought the car, we started building it up and we had so much fun with it. The current value this year could not be more than 1,000 euros.”
So these are really old cars that the men use. Michael goes in the same Volvo as last year. He laughs: “Not much has changed. It’s an old barrel, but so are we. But it still works reasonably well.”
Pimped up car
Robin’s car has been completely pimped and is ready, with less than a week before departure. “We put different rims on it, raised it four centimeters to get more ground clearance in the snow. And big winter tires!”
Despite the limited time that it is light there, he is very much looking forward to the surroundings. “The landscape is just very beautiful. And to go on such an adventure with three of your best friends, it seems fantastic.”
