Adrian Sutil apparently has to defend himself against serious accusations. A report now says: The 42-year-old is currently in prison.
He competed in 128 Grand Prix in Formula 1, scoring a total of 124 points – but now there is no good news about the former German driver Adrian Sutil. According to a report in “Bild”, the 42-year-old was arrested. Officials from the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office are said to have taken Sutil into custody in Sindelfingen on Thursday.
Accordingly, there was an arrest warrant against Sutil for suspected fraud. A spokesman for the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office confirmed when asked by the newspaper: “Several properties were searched together with the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office.”
Sutil was subsequently brought before the Stuttgart District Court. A judge executed the existing arrest warrant. The authorities have not yet wanted to provide further details. According to information from investigators in the “Bild” newspaper, there is a suspicion that Sutil was guilty of “joint fraud in a particularly serious case and joint embezzlement.” There is currently no official statement from the public prosecutor’s office on specific allegations.
This was not the first time Sutil’s name had appeared in connection with the judiciary. In 2012, an incident occurred in a nightclub in Shanghai. There he injured the then Lotus managing director Eric Lux in the neck with a broken champagne glass and was sentenced to 18 months probation for this. In 2020, Sutil caused a stir again when he crashed a McLaren Senna LM in Monaco and hit an expensive traffic obstacle.
During his career in Formula 1, Sutil drove for several teams: for Spyker in 2007, for Force India from 2008 to 2011 and again in 2013, and then for Sauber in 2014. His best result was a fourth place in Monza in 2009. This makes him the driver in Formula 1 history with the most starts without a podium finish.
