If it is up to child psychiatrist Peter Adriaenssens, victims of abuse should receive much higher compensation. He advocates a system of monthly disability benefits that compensate for the loss of quality of life. Instead of judicial compensation of 5,000 or 10,000 euros, amounts could amount to “200,000 to 600,000 euros”. Adriaenssens made the statements in the special committee of the Flemish Parliament about sexual abuse in the Church.
