Adriaan Van den Hoof speaks for the first time since accusations: “Can’t deny that I have lost friends” | BV

Last year it became known that several women accuse Van den Hoof of transgressive behavior in the private sphere. They did so with the confidential advisor of the public broadcaster. With all its consequences. His spot as ‘Switch’ presenter went to ‘Studio Brussel’ presenter Fien Germijns and he disappeared – except for his theater show ‘t Will be clean when it is finished’ – in the lee.

But now he’s scrambling to his feet again. He does this with his first graphic exhibition ever, called ‘#manneketekenen’. In it he presents several of his drawings and paintings, which are a combination of pop art and graffiti. The exhibition only lasts four days, but Van den Hoof doesn’t mind. For him it is a try-out to see if the public finds him interesting enough as an artist.

Van den Hoof sees drawing as a kind of meditation. Something he needs. Because, according to his own words, he lives in a constant state of unrest. Something he also tries to remedy by occasionally going for a walk with his girlfriend Emily. On the other hand, that also makes him realize how much he misses playing now. But that will soon change. Ergan Demirci asked him, among other things, to participate in his benefit show in Ostend. But Adriaan himself will soon also come up with a new hall show. He already has the title. ‘Why, Hardly Nobody Knows That’, it reads. “That pretty much covers the load of the past few years,” says Van den Hoof.

Because those years were intense, Adriaan himself admits in ‘Het Belang van Limburg’. “Of course I had something going on,” he says. Telling about this, he had to think about it for a long time. Because what happened, in their own words, was mainly situated in the private sphere. “The people I had to apologize to have now received them.” All he’s trying to do now is make progress. “Again: what happened had nothing to do with my work,” said Van den Hoof in ‘Het Belang van Limburg.’

Although everything took place in Adriaan’s private life, it did have a certain influence on his work. He was replaced as presenter of the One program ‘Switch’. But according to Van den Hoof, that had more to do with “innovation and diversity” than with him. In his own words, it was a few magazines that connected his work with private events from the distant past. “There are no cases or complaints against me and in my professional life I have not wronged anyone.” According to Adriaan, “all kinds of stories and many insinuations” that are not or were not linked to his television work.

He is positive about a future. Adriaan wants to move forward and certainly does not rule out TV work in the future. And that TV work can still be with the VRT. Because according to Adriaan, contact with the public broadcaster has not disappeared. Soon the recording of his most recent show will be broadcast.

Of course, Van den Hoof has experienced some fear in recent times. He refers to the friends he lost because of the fuss: “I can’t deny that I have lost friends, friends who have judged me. Although there are more people who support me. And I can still use that support”, says Van den Hoof in ‘Het Belang van Limburg’.
