Adidas’ North American chief resigns

Adidas North America boss Rupert Campbell is set to step down from his position following a period of turmoil and drastic leadership changes at the company.

The move was apparently confirmed in an internal communication obtained by the industry magazine Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). It said that Campbell would “pursue other opportunities” following his decision to leave the company.

Campbell joined Adidas in 2012, where he first started as Retail Director of the sportswear giant’s Market North Division and then returned to Adidas in 2018 to take on the role of Managing Director Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

He took on his most recent role in January 2022, at a time when Adidas was faced with complaints of racial discrimination against employees within the company, after which Campbell was brought in to clarify the situation and strengthen the company.

The letter, signed by board member Arthur Hoeld and deputy director of human resources Eveline Noya, said Campbell represents “values based on inclusion and diversity” and has built “strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.”

Campbell’s last day is expected to be October 27th. Hoeld will then assume direct oversight of the North American business until the succession is determined.
