The sporting goods supplier Adidas AG from Herzogenaurach is the official outfitter of the German team for the Special Olympics World Games, which will be held in Berlin next June. As part of the partnership, which was presented in the capital on Monday, Adidas will supply the “official presentation and training clothing” for the 414 nominated athletes from Germany, the company said. According to the sports article company, the “World Games for people with a mental disability” are “the largest multi-sport event in Germany since the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich”.
Christian Baertels, Senior Director Sports Marketing at Adidas for the region of Central Europe, explained the background of the cooperation: “For us, Special Olympics stands for diversity, equality and inclusion like no other sporting event,” he explained in a statement. “As part of the partnership with Team SOD, we want to support all athletes and at the same time encourage more participation and respectful cooperation.”
Baertels emphasized that the fact that the “largest inclusive sports event in the world” takes place in Berlin is “of particular importance” for Adidas. The capital is an “important location of the global key city strategy” and “Adidas’ second home in Germany,” explained the Franconia-based company. As part of its commitment to the Special Olympics World Games, the sporting goods supplier now wants to “introduce its network in the capital and at the same time further expand its presence”.
