“Adding is unstoppable, there is no turning back”

Yolanda Diaz claims the “collective” force of Sumar against the personalisms of Pablo Iglesias, and he does so only two days after receiving the attacks by the former leader of Podemos. The second vice president has exposed a “different way” of doing politics, “more serious, deeper, and not by headline”, she has pointed out, in a clear reference to Iglesias but without mentioning him. Díaz has warned that his project “is unstoppable” and that “there is no turning back”before reaffirming herself as a candidate, anticipating that “I am going to take a step forward.”

“If you want to add, Adding is unstoppable, there is no turning back, we are going to continue adding”, the leader proclaimed from the Baluarte Conference Center, in Pamplona. “If you want to add, I am going to take a step forward, but in a collective, feminist way,” she said. Faced with this “collective” process, Yolanda Díaz has proposed other ways of doing politics. “Let no one tell you from above what we should do“; has warned. “I will not make this decision alone, I don’t like that way of doing things, from above. And if you want, I’m ready.”

In his speech, Díaz pointed out that “Sumar is going to to do things differently, more calmlyslower, with more patience”, he pointed out, before calling for a policy “more serious, deeper, not at the headline”. A new reference to the modus operandi of Iglesias from which he wanted to distance himself: “We do not do politics to make headlines.”

“I don’t understand politics in a confrontational way, politics is not about beating the one in front of you; it’s about moving forward, reaching out and getting better things”

“We are fed up with petty politics, that makes noise, that faceswhich disperses us”, Small policy that does nothing but make us listen to barbarities every day! Barbarities!”, continued the second vice president, who this Monday avoided expressly speaking about the accusations of Iglesias.

One of the accusations that Iglesias made on Sunday was that of giving up certain principles when it comes to reaching agreements. He mentioned some of the points of conflict between Díaz and Podemos, such as the CGPJ or the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, and went so far as to ensure that the positions of the vice president – whom he did not mention – were of a “blushing naivety”. Yolanda Díaz has made express reference to her way of exercising her power, in a radically opposite way to that proposed by the former leader of Podemos: “I do not understand politics in a confrontational way. Politics is not about beating the one in front of you, it’s about moving forwardto reach out and get better things”.

Yolanda Díaz has also claimed a feminine way of doing politics. It does so after this Saturday Irene Montero was absolutely opposed to the so-called “feminization of politics”, considering that “exercising power implies conflict”, and exercising it in a more conciliatory way meant accepting an imposition of “what is the legitimate way of doing politics.

Very far from these theses, Díaz has defended in Pamplona “the politics of yes, that way of doing politics that is feminist, that cares, does not confront, that is not fighting all day, seeks to dialogue, reaches out. We women want make a better country without confrontation, making ourselves better, feminism is about this”.
