ACV shortchanges itself against Ajax: 0-0

FOOTBALL – After a number of good practice matches, including last week’s won game against Second Divisionist HHC (1-2), Third Division club ACV was allowed to go out in competition again after more than three months of corona break. The Assenaren played well on their own field, certainly before the break, but Fred de Boer’s men forgot one thing: scoring. The second half, which produced fewer chances, also remained goalless.

Due to the 0-0, ACV is stuck in 12th place in the Derde Divisie, with 18 points from 14 matches. The gap with the danger zone is four points, but ACV has played a duel less than DOVO (which is 15th and therefore in a pd spot).

Pharaohuni should have done it

Without Nande Wielink (injured by a mirror at home) and Niels Grevink (who may not be in action for the rest of the season due to a foot injury), ACV did well against Ajax, which had as many points as the Asser team but did played with one more game. Justin Mulder was given the opportunity to open the score twice, but both times the fast attacker ran into goalkeeper Virgil Deen. The same Dane also turned ACV’s greatest chance ten minutes before half time. Toufik Faraouni did not dare to take a shot at about ten meters from the goal and then shot the ball on the keeper’s fists. The rebound was for Freddie Quispel, but he didn’t score either.

Hagenauw almost, great rescue Wormmeester

In the second half ACV forced fewer chances than before halftime, especially because Ajax made the space even smaller than in the first 45 minutes and ACV was unable to find the real solution ahead. Still, after a few substitutions by Fred de Boer, the winner could still have fallen, but Arjen Hagenauw saw one of his first ball contacts not end up against the ropes but in the hands of Deen. At that moment Ajax could have been 0-1 just like that, but Ben Wormmeester – who otherwise had a quiet afternoon – made an excellent save on a bet by Tristan Buis from a sparse counter from the team from Amsterdam.
