ACV choked Saturday afternoon in Excelsior’31 from Rijssen. In-house, the team of trainer Ruud Jalving did not get further than a 1-1 draw. Because GVVV also tied, the blue-blacks remain in the lead.
The team from Assen took over the lead from GVVV last week after beating that team 2-1 in a direct, very exciting duel. After that real topper under great public interest, a completely different challenge awaited the men of trainer Ruud Jalving on Saturday.
Low-flyer Excelsior’31 from Rijssen came to visit our own Catawiki Sports Park. Easy on paper, you might say. But Jalving said it often enough this season: there are no easy things in this third division. Illustrative of this: the team from Assen won the last five league games, but there was always only one goal difference.
Many times the ball
On the birthday of the club that was founded on April 8, 1939, it turned out that against Excelsior’31. In the fight against relegation, the guests chose to ‘park the bus’. ACV often had the ball, but Excelsior’31 opened the score halfway through the first half. Of course even more reason for the guests to retreat to their own half.
The team from Assen did create chances, but also had a hard time with the handball defense. Only after the break did they break the spell. Pasal Huser made it 1-1 via a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. That was it, although ACV still had chances, but the residents of Rijssen were also still dangerous, for example, they hit the crossbar. That is why Jalving could live with the result afterwards.
,,If you look at the game image, not of course, but they were also dangerous at crucial moments. After the 1-0 they also had a huge chance on the second and then it will be a completely different story. I understand that as a team that fights against relegation they choose such a way of fighting. That’s what we’re dealing with at this stage. I don’t look at the results of GVVV, I have no influence on that anyway. We just focus on ourselves.”
